Lo originally peaked an interest in the art of hair through her time at The Academy of Arts University in her hometown of San Francisco where she studied sculpture. This education inspired her to become a cutting specialist after drawing parallels between sculpture, the shape of hair, and how it relates to clients bone structure and face shape. Lo graduated with her cosmetology license from the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology school and started immediately on her advanced education path in haircutting specialty.

Since that time, Lo has worked in some of the nation’s top salons over the course of her career, and recently made the decision to jump into ownership and open her own private studio in downtown Austin, Strange Bird Studio. With a background in most cutting systems, including Vidal Sassoon, Tony and Guy, Paul Mitchell and Bumble and Bumble, Lo has become a curl and texture Specialist, and achieved title as a Goldwell Master Stylist in 2018. Lo also holds multiple New York Fashion Week Credits working with EVO for TOME, and JAWARA for a Vogue video shoot where she styled celebrities the likes of Chrissy Teigen and Ashley Graham.

For Lo, there is never a bad day at work. She truly believes stylists have the best job in the world. With a naturally warm, calming demeanor, and a passion for cultivating confidence, she loves building client relationships, and believes her client’s salon experience is a form of therapy.

There is no texture that makes Lo nervous. When you’ve had as much education, specialized training, and experience as she has, it’s easy to confidently, thoughtfully advise clients—new and returning—on the best style for them.

Lo has honed in her specialty in the past few years focusing on straight razor cutting and natural, non-toxic haircare. Taking multiple cutting trainings from educators such as Jayne Matthews, Holly Seidel, and Brian Hickman among many others, Lo takes building community over competition very seriously and has immersed herself in the clean beauty community. Using a razor feels most natural to her, as it mimics her sculpture education – she views every client and service as a mindful, creative process that is 100% tailored for each individual in her chair.

“We are creatives, not machines. It is time to bring back the art in hairdressing” she said when asked about the direction the industry is shifting. Lo loves taking her work into new environments and does multiple Pop-Ups each year to cities including Los Angeles, Seattle and New York.

In February 2020 Lo kicked off her independent education endeavor, offering one on one education, small private group education and In-Salon Look and Learn workshops. Her passion for teaching and creating a safe, comfortable environment for established stylists (or brand new ones!) to ask questions and learn something new is unmatched. She truly believes that mentorship and teaching are the most important thing we can do in our industry. Lo looks forward to meeting each and every one of you, whether in her chair at her salon, at a pop up or as a student in one of her classes… all are welcome !
